Step 1: Artists Paint

Competing artists have only four hours to paint using identical provided materials on September 12 at Paint Day. Click on the following link for more information about painting: http://www.paintday.eventbrite.com

Step 2: You Vote Online

Completed paintings are photographed and posted online at www.artvsart.com where site visitors have roughly two weeks to vote for their three favorites, with one vote allowed per e-mail address.

Step 3: The Main Event

The 32 paintings with the most online votes make the cut for the Main Event to be held on Friday, September 25, 2009, at the Vogue Theatre in Broad Ripple. Paintings not making the first cut will be on sale at the event. 

At the show, the audience members are treated to DJ performances, food, and drink as they preview the work and fill out a ballot for their three favorites. The top 16 vote-getters then battle it out on stage, where two randomly selected finalists square off head-to-head. A capacity crowd of art patrons chooses between each pairing by yelling and screaming to achieve the highest noise level determined by a digital decibel reader. The winning painting advances to the next round.

The losing painting faces the threat of destruction (by chain saw, baseball bat, power drill, etc.) as determined by a spin of the ominous Wheel of Death. 

Audience members can save a painting from impending doom by buying it. Artists keep 70% of the sales of their paintings. Auctioneers start the bids at a minimum amount depending on the round:

▪       Round 3: $350

▪       Round 4: $450

 The last painting standing will be crowned the Art vs. Art 2009 champion and will win the $3,500 cash prize.
